Our travel section would not be complete without a story about Paris!
Almost everything has already been said and written about the City of Lights, yet many visitors do not go much further than some of the major tourist attractions like the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Elysees and the Chateau de Versailles. These are truly beautiful places to see, so you should certainly save a day or two to visit these wonders of French History.
Paris is unmistakably French, but it is also a very cosmopolitan city with many international influences! You don’t need to go very far to feel like you are in a completely different country…
The “Marche de Barbes” is a prime example of the diversity of Paris. Every Wednesday and Saturday morning, under the bridges supporting the Metro in the 18th district (“arrondissement”), thousands of people come together to enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience. Look around, and you’ll think you are in Marrakech or Yaounde! Between the colorful African dresses and the Arab vendors screaming, this is a long way from the posh and luxurious atmosphere of the Rue de Rivoli or Place Vendome!
The Barbes market is known for having the cheapest prices in Paris, so you may want to take a closer look at what you pick, but if you don’t mind a few bumps and bruises on your apples, you’ll be fine! Just think of it as a place to buy food you’ll use that same day…
Paris is a vibrant metropolis with many diverse cultures that all contributed, and still contribute, to make Paris one of the greatest cities in the world so don’t be afraid to go out and enjoy outside of the beaten path!
